Tuesdays at the Castle by Jessica Day George and Suzy Jackson is an enchanting first novel in a series about a magical castle and the family who resides there. Princess Celie lives with her parents, the king and queen, in a castle that likes to change shape every Tuesday. Celie loves to see what type of room the castle will add each week. When her parents leave on a trip to visit her oldest brother, a terrible tragedy happens. Not knowing what exactly happened to her parents, Celie, her siblings, and the castle staff loyal to the family, take it upon themselves to protect the castle from the invasion of suspicious visitors until the mystery of the king and queen is resolved. Celie’s knowledge of the magical, changing castle could be their only defense against the people eager to take over the kingdom.
This book is a page turner for sure! The characters seem very real to the reader. The siblings are each so different and real, and kids can relate to the way they argue and annoy each other in the book. It is a level S (end of 4th grade level), but appeals to 4th grade and up. I hope your reader finds these books to be as amazing as my students did! Happy Reading!!
